Footnote
The present work is one of Tuke's earliest known portraits, no. 9 in Tuke's register, annotated by BD Price with a comment 'approved by John Singer Sargent'.
Condition report
The board is sound and the paint surface in good condition. Ultraviolet reveals spots of retouching to the sitter's chin and waist, further specks off the left hand border. Held in a plaster gilt frame in fair condition.
