The Fabius was a whaling vessel from Nantucket, Massachusetts, and likely sailed between 12th July 1840 and 6th April 184, captained by Frederick B. Chase (1795-1873). ('Catalogue of Nantucket Whalers And Their Voyages From 1815 to 1870' by Hussey & Robinsons publishers 1876). It was possibly on this voyage, undertaken to collect valuable Sperm whale oil, that the stick was constructed, a typical project undertaken by whalers to utilise the less valuable whale bone and ivory. Captain Chase is listed as being interred in the Prospect Hill Cemetery, Nantucket.
