Provenance: By repute, a gift from Napoleon III to Robert Jope Slade (1828-1896), the Harbour Master of Torquay when the ex Emperor Napoleon III visited in 1871.
Condition Report: Slight distortion to the top rim, minor distortion to bottom rim, hallmarks clear apart from being a little weak on the left hand side of the maker's mark, slight wear to the high points of the oak and vine bands, a few surface marks to the body, the gilding within is rather weak, but overall of pleasing appearance, minor wear and tear, commensurate with age. Pretty stable on its foot.
