A LATE VICTORIAN SILVER MOUNTED TORTOISESHELL PAGE TURNER

The mount with scroll pierced and engraved decoration, monogram engraved, bears maker's mark only, (indistinct) length 43cm, with the original case

Condition Report.

The tortoiseshell blade may be slightly reduced at the tip end as it falls short when positioned in the case.  The edges of the blade are a bit nibbled and scuffed, possibly as a result of silver fish or other insect activity.  The blade is also rather sun faded.

The handle; There is a small section missing from the top at one end on one side, then the other side, although this section is present, it is split through and rotates on it's pin fitting, there is a maker's mark there S D above D, there is also evidence of past solder repair on either side.  The handle mount is monogram engraved on both sides

The case; The hinge on one side is detached from the bottom of the case, there is fluid staining to the silk within the lid where the catch connects to the top of the case on one end, it is damaged, case exterior lid severely damaged
