CHARLES NOSETTI; A PAIR OF VICTORIAN GILTWOOD AND COMPOSITION GIRANDOLE MIRRORS

Circa 1870, both labelled to the reverse ‘C. NOSETTI CARVER & GILDER, UPHOLSTERER & CABINET MAKER, 398 & 399 OXFORD ST.’, 60cm wide; 110cm high

Charles Francis Nosetti (c.1831-1909) was active from the above address from 1854 to 1881. He promoted himself as the carver and gilder to Napoleon III and best known for decorating the chapels of the Brompton Oratory.

Condition report: 

Dirt, dust, various chips, cracks and losses in areas, commensurate with use and age. 

One mirror with broken off tapering berried finial to the base of the mirror. Parts are present and requires restoration. 

Various other smaller losses to the same mirror, including a small section of missing beading to the top right and several dented / chipped areas to the moulded decoration, and loss to the flower of the scrolling crest above. 

The second mirror with more losses to the candle nozzles and missing end right section of the leafy crest. 

Some later gilt decoration in areas. 

Foxing to the slivering of both mirror plates.
