(First and last few leaves spotted and lightly browned, with some creasing, mainly marginal light browning and staining). Original linen-backed pink silk boards with English title and Chinese characters in gilt, stitched with red silk thread (lightly faded, corners rubbed). Provenance: "To my darling Daddy from Kay and [?]Hans, Christmas 1940" (inscription on first leaf); modern ownership label on the same leaf; modern autograph note on the provenance loosely-inserted. FIRST EDITION. "This book has been printed on specially prepared Chinese paper made by hand from bamboo fiber. The Chinese characters on the silk cover are a translation of the title in Generalissimo Chiang Kai-Shek's own calligraphy" (printed note).
