Half title, monochrome photographed portrait of Joseph Conrad (heavy reddish staining to the first and last few leaves including the portrait and title). Original terracotta printed paper boards, uncut, remnants of glassine wrapper (spine very worn and the binding very shaken, some leaves detached). Provenance: The Property of a Collector. FIRST EDITION. ONE OF 150 COPIES. PRESENTATION COPY, the front free endpaper inscribed, "[?]Miss H. U. [?]Hallowes, With kindest regards from Thos. J. Wise." The recipient of this copy is probably a relation of Lilian Hallowes: please see the biographical note to lot 333. RARE.
