CHURCHILL, Winston Spencer (1874-1965).  The World Crisis 1911-[1918]. London: Thornton Butterworth Limited, April 1923 - March 1929. Volumes I - IV only, bound in 5 (of 6). Large 8vo (226 x 148mm). Half titles, plates, maps, some folding and printed in red and black, errata slips (stain to upper edge of 2 half titles, stain to pages 98 and 99 in vol. one). Attractively bound in contemporary red half morocco gilt by The Times Book Club, top edges gilt (upper inner hinges split in vol. one, the last volume bound [?later] in darker red morocco, spines a little faded). Provenance: some very faint marginal pencil annotation to a few leaves. FIRST EDITION. The volumes in this set, of what is a notoriously complicated work bibliographically, are titled as follows, with the numbers corresponding to the volume numbers stamped on each spine: 1) The World Crisis 1911-1914; 2) The World Crisis 1915; 3) The World Crisis 1916-1918. Part I; 4) The World Crisis 1916-1918. Part II; and 5) The World Crisis. The Aftermath. The "fifth" volume titled "The World Crisis. The Eastern Front", first published in 1931, is not present.
