Half title, 16 half tone plates. FINELY BOUND in red crushed morocco gilt by Bayntun, the spine gilt in compartments, dentelles, marbled endpapers, top edges gilt (head of upper joint rubbed, some light rubbing to extremities). Provenance: Mrs Marcus Samuel (modern signature on p.13). FIRST EDITION, EXTRA-ILLUSTRATED with 74 engraved or aquatint plates, one folding, some hand-coloured and/or double page. Loosely-inserted is a 4-page flyer titled Books Printed for Bez. Creake, at the Bible in Jermyn-Street, St. James's ([London, n.d.], 8vo).
