THE BATTLE OF TRAFALGAR - Plan of the Attack of Lord Nelson, on the Combined Fleet, October 21st, 1805. [London:] "Published by R. Dodd under the Admiralty," November 1805. Contemporary broadside printed in the month following the Battle of Trafalgar, with a hand-coloured etched and aquatinted illustration of the battle in the upper half and two letters from Admiral Cuthbert Collingwood, 1st Baron Collingwood, printed in 3 columns beneath, the first dated "Euryalus, off Cape Trafalgar, Oct. 22, 1805", the second "Euralyus, October 22, 1805", giving an account of the battle and the death of Nelson, with further statistics of the battle at the foot (browned), 620 x 390mm., framed and glazed. "From about 1783 [Robert] Dodd [(1748-?1816), the engraver of the broadside] engraved and published over 100 aquatints of his work. Of interest are his sets of engravings of the battles of the Nile and Trafalgar. In his engravings as in his paintings his strength lies in the depiction of water and in accuracy of the details of ships' rigging, masts and sails in different conditions.
