"When I left it, and my folks out there, I never thought I should get over it, - and I probably never will, - but it is a great experience for me, when people through my book [i.e. "Out of Africa"] get to love and understand the places and the folks I left, - and it seems as if part of all that once sank and disappeared, through me completely unworthy in some other sense has been conserved.
