"DINESEN, Isak" [i.e. Karen BLIXEN (1885-1962)]. A typed letter in Swedish, signed ("Karen Blixen"), on blue paper, to "Mrs Shou", two-pages, dated 2 September 1938, thanking her very warmly for her letter about her African farm and "Out of Africa". "When I left it, and my folks out there, I never thought I should get over it, - and I probably never will, - but it is a great experience for me, when people through my book [i.e. "Out of Africa"] get to love and understand the places and the folks I left, - and it seems as if part of all that once sank and disappeared, through me completely unworthy in some other sense has been conserved. I thank you so much because you too have given me confidence in this" [taken from the accompanying typed translation]. Provenance: Sotheby's, London: The Collection of George Cosmatos, 31 March 1998, lot 35.
