Paris: Chez Thierry Frères, 1836. Large folio (615 x 470mm). Half title, large lithographed device on title, 2 vignettes [not counted as plates], fine lithographed plates and 9 vignettes numbered 1 - 48 and including 4 additional 'bis' plates or vignettes (title quite heavily spotted, variable, mainly marginal, spotting elsewhere, some darker spots and stains). Unbound, but joints and text-block holding throughout, gilt edges. FIRST EDITION. Brunet III, 445: "La plus grande partie des exemplaires de ce bel ouvrage ont dû passer en Russie"; The RIBA Library Catalogue p.852: "... originally published in eight parts." Brunet calls for a total of 41 plates and 12 vignettes. The present copy is complete, notwithstanding the complexities and idiosyncrasies of the plate and vignette numbering, with some vignettes counted as plates and several 'bis' plates and vignettes.
