Frontispiece portrait of the author after John Singer Sargent in vol. one, frontispieces after various artists in some other vols., titles printed in red and black (some spotting and staining). Attractively bound by Hatchards in contemporary green half calf gilt, top edges gilt, others uncut. (spines faded, some light rubbing, scuffing and scratching). NUMBER 864 OF 1,025 SETS INITIALLED BY THE AUTHOR. Volume 37 ("Illustrations Prepared for the Memorial Edition of the Works of George Meredith") contains 60 photogravure plates and 4 collotypes of reproductions of manuscripts.
