FINELY BOUND in red morocco elaborately decorated and lettered in gilt [the binding unsigned], the upper cover with a central sunburst and lettered in gilt with quotes from the work, the borders decorated with large and small stars, the lower cover with a sun setting over, and reflected in, water, and also lettered in gilt with quotes from the work, the borders decorated with large stars, spine with 5 raised bands, gilt edges, elaborate dentelles gilt, watered silk liners (joints rubbed). The binding, with its copious gilt lettering, is very similar in style to the bible included in this sale (lot 6) which was a gift from Anne Clarissa Spencer-Churchill (1920-2021) to her mother Lady Gwendeline Theresa Mary Spencer-Churchill (1885-1941). With the same author's The Poems of the Vita Nuova and Convito ... Translated by Charles Lyell (London, 1842, large 8vo (255 x 165mm), FINELY BOUND in full contemporary vellum gilt, a little bowed, lengthy Latin presentation inscription from William Charles Henry to David Williams dated 1846 at the front, old armorial bookplate of Anthony Eden).
