Half title, half tone frontispiece and 7 plates (half title very lightly browned, title lightly creased, a few spots and stains). Original blue cloth, spine lettered in gilt (spine faded, without the dust-jacket). Provenance: Anthony Eden (modern armorial bookplate loosely-inserted). FIRST EDITION, PRESENTATION COPY, the front free endpaper inscribed, "Beatrice, from Anthony. Looking back: and looking forward to yet other 'Places in the Sun' to be [?]basked in together. Together they had two sons, the first of whom, Simon Gascoigne Eden, became a navigator in the R.A.F. and was killed in action in Burma in 1945, a loss which contributed to the break-up of their marriage in 1950.
