London: William Mackenzie, [1870]. 6 volumes, 4to (273 x 215mm). 6 additional titles with coloured lithographed vignettes, printed titles in red and black, 234 coloured lithographed plates by Benjamin Fawcett (one plate and text leaf detached from vol. V, 3 plates and leaves detached from vol. VI, occasional spotting, staining and browning, but plates largely clean). Original elaborately decorated cloth gilt, gilt edges (inner hinges of vol. VI split). Provenance: "Lucy Frances Marshall Kennedy with Karl's love" (old inscription on the front free endpaper of vol. one, with a truncated version of the inscription on the front free endpaper of vol. II). This set does not include the seventh volume of subscribers and their facsimile signatures (but no coloured plates) which is often lacking.
