Original black cloth, spine lettered and ruled in gilt, dust-jacket designed by John Aldridge with price of 8'- unclipped, uncut at lower edges (a few short tears without loss at head of backstrip, some chipping to corners, some extremely faint browning in a strip to head of upper wrapper, to backstrip and at folds of turn-ins). Provenance: The Book Society (ex-libris sticker [as usual]). FIRST EDITION of the author's most celebrated novel which won both the Hawthornden and James Tait Black prizes. There was a critically acclaimed BBC television dramatisation in 1976, with Derek Jacobi playing Claudius. Higginson A42.
