Half title, title printed in red and black with foliate border and small illustration, 8 coloured plates by Charles Robinson, 6-pages of publisher's advertisements at the end (some extremely faint marginal staining to a few leaves). Original green pictorial buckram gilt, top edges stained green, pictorial endpapers (corners very lightly rubbed). Provenance: "With love from Joyce" (over-sized juvenile inscription on half title). THE FIRST U.K. EDITION of this much-loved children's classic, published one month after the first American edition, and the first to include Charles Robinson's illustrations.
