BIBA [Catalogue] - [London:] Beric Press, [May 1969]. Tall slim folio (355 x 178mm). Tinted photographs by Helmut Newton, catalogue design by John McConnell, 2 leaves folding. Original dark green stapled wrappers with the BIBA design stamped in gilt on the upper wrapper, original mail-order form [uncompleted] loosely-inserted. With another BIBA catalogue from 1969 with sepia photographs by Harri Peccinoti and terracotta wrappers, also with its mail-order form. Founded in the early sixties by Polish-born Barbara Hulanacki (b.1936), BIBA started life as a comparatively modest mail-order clothing retailer. It opened its first shop in Abingdon Road, Kensington, in September 1964 and, in 1973, backed by Dorothy Perkins, it occupied seven storeys of the Derry and Toms department store in Kensington High Street where it attracted up to a million visitors a week, making it one of the capital's top attractions. Finally closing in 1975, BIBA helped define the look of a whole generation. RARE. (2)
