ALBUM - Edward LEAR (1812-88). One-page autograph letter, signed, on paper addressed in hand, "27 Duke Street, St. James's", [undated], stating, "My dear Madam, I shall be delighted to have the pleasure of dining with you and Mr [?]Gay tomorrow. Oddly enough, I was just going to write as your note came - to [?]propose breakfasting with you. Believe me, Yours most sincerely, Edward Lear." The letter is pasted into an album containing c. 80 autograph letters from various 19th-century correspondents, clipped signatures and envelopes including the Duke of Wellington (signed note), Robert Peel (signed note), Lord Palmerston (one-page autograph letter, signed), [Saint] John Henry Newman (Oriel College account slip, signed by Newman), Samuel Rogers (fragment of an autograph letter, signed), Giuseppe Garibaldi (clipped signature), John Ruskin (clipped signature), Rudyard Kipling (clipped signature) and a satirical pencil drawing, unsigned and undated, but mid-19th-century, titled "Frome Election."
