Parallel text in French and Latin, woodcut ornaments (some light spotting and browning). VERY FINELY BOUND in later highly elaborate mosaic cream calf, the covers with a border of drawer-handle tools with alternating green and red morocco inlays, a single gilt fillet enclosing an inlaid blue-painted strapwork border with red-painted inlays and onlays, the central panel with a cartouche enclosing a Sacred Heart surmounted by a chaplet of flowers and dove, the spine in 6 compartments, the second lettered, the others with interlacing strapwork of red and green inlays with fleur-de-lys at the centre, gilt edges, pink watered silk liners (joints and corners rubbed). Provenance: CORTLANDT FIELD BISHOP (1870-1935, pioneer aviator and collector, label with Bishop's mitre).
