Engraved portrait of the author, text in French and largely printed in black letter (some light mainly marginal spotting and staining, some darker spots, a few leaves lightly browned). Contemporary panelled calf (upper joints splitting, rubbed and scuffed). Provenance: Snr. [?]Morse (old signature on title). FIRST EDITION. With 26 works in 37 vols. including Canones et decreta sacrosancti ([No place], 1564 [bound with:] Index librorum prohibitorum, cum regulis confectis per Patres à Tridentina Synodo delectos [N.p., n.d.], 2 works in one vol., 8vo, lacks all before title [i.e. blanks], last few leaves defective, contemporary elaborately blind-stamped vellum, clasps, worn and stained, copious later annotation), Bernard de Fontenelle's Nouveaux Dialogues des Morts (Amsterdam, 1687, contemporary vellum), [Pierre Nicole's] Essais de Morale Contenus en Divers Traites sur Plusieurs Devoirs Importans (Paris, 1715-32, vols.
