THE LAST SHAH OF IRAN - Mohammed Reza PAHLAVI (1919-80) and Stanko Todorov GEORGIEV (1920-96). "Visit of the Minister of the Chairman of Bulgaria Stanko Todorov in Iran 1972" [title in white on the upper cover of album]. Photograph album, oblong 4to (303 x 400mm), containing 12 colour and 95 monochrome photographs, mounted, the first photograph depicting the Shah being introduced to a deferential Prime Minister of Bulgaria signed by the Shah ("M. R. Pahlavi"), some of the photographs bearing the blindstamped seal of the Iranian state. Original pale blue buckram, metal clasp. The album records the Bulgarian state delegation to Iran and the Shah in 1972, led by the then Prime Minister of Bulgaria Stanko Todorov Georgiev, including presentations, formal meetings, informal receptions and lavish dinners, folk dancers and visits to exhibitions of elaborate state ceremonial jewellery, bordering on the ostentatious: a picture of a vanished world. The Shah was deposed in the Iranian Revolution of 1979, whereupon he was granted asylum by Anwar Sadat in Egypt, dying there a year later.
