Attractively bound in contemporary dark green morocco-backed cloth boards, spines lettered and decorated in gilt (spines of later vols. faded, some rubbing and scuffing). Provenance: from the Collection of Peter and Margarethe Braune. La Nature, a magazine intended to popularise contemporary French science and technology, was established in 1873 and edited until 1896 by the French chemist, meteorologist and aviator Gaston Tissandier (1843-99). Also known as something of an adventurer, he was famous for, among other daring exploits, escaping Paris in a balloon during its siege in 1870. (39)
