Half title, 100 coloured plates by Mortimer Menpes. FINELY BOUND in scarlet crushed morocco gilt by Bickers and Son, spine decorated in gilt with 5 raised bands, top edges gilt, others uncut. Provenance: Sir Alexander Kay Muir (armorial bookplate). FIRST EDITION. NUMBER 80 OF 600 "EDITION DE LUXE" COPIES SIGNED BY THE ARTIST. With 3 other books illustrated by the same artist and with text by Dorothy Menpes, namely War Impressions (London, [1901], NUMBER 210 OF 350 "EDITION DE LUXE" COPIES SIGNED BY THE ARTIST), World Pictures (London, 1902, NUMBER 38 OF 500 "EDITION DE LUXE" COPIES SIGNED BY THE ARTIST) and The Durbar (London, 1903, NUMBER 18 OF 1,000 "EDITION DE LUXE" COPIES SIGNED BY THE ARTIST), each VERY FINELY BOUND in uniform scarlet crushed morocco gilt by Bickers and Son, except for War Impressions which has a plainer spine. Provenance: from the Collection of the late Professor Bernard Nevill (1930-2019).
