Original cloth-backed paper boards lettered in black with red printer's device and red typographical border, uncut, partly unopened (extremities lightly rubbed, some light staining and scuffing, inner hinges splitting). Provenance: Francis Kettaneh (blue morocco "ex libris" label on front free endpaper); from the Collection of the late Leslie Waddington (1934-2015) and thence by descent. FIRST EDITION. NUMBER 121 OF 300 COPIES ON "RIVES HAND-MADE PAPER". A printed note within a typographical border at the end states: "Hand-printed at Paris, in the Isle Saint Louis, by William Bird, amateur printer, with the collaboration of Roger Dévigne. Caslon Old-Face set by Philip Beaugié. Press-work by Robert Dill. January, 1923." This semi-autobiographical work was the first book printed by the Three Mountains Press; many copies were unbound and issued in sheet form. Gallup A23.
