Contemporary half roan and marbled boards (rubbed and scuffed, head of spine torn). Provenance: from the Collection of Peter and Margarethe Braune. FIRST EDITION. Chapter XXVII (titled “Ueber die Vermehrung der Pflanzen durch Theilung”) reprints the author’s dissertation of 1835 which contains the first description of the division of a cell.
