NUMBER 386 OF 675 "exemplaires ordinaires content la musique et une seule planche ...". ‘Sports and Divertissements’ is a cycle of 21 short piano pieces, each depicting, with the verve and eccentricity characteristic of the composer, a different sport or diversion. In the opening piece titled ‘Choral inappétissant’ the composer’s instructions to the player include ‘rébarbatif et hargneaux’ and ‘hypocritement.’
