Title with woodcut illustration, facsimile music printed in red and black, pochoir-coloured plate by Charles Martin captioned “Comédie Italienne” (title and plate browned), unbound, as issued, in original portfolio with woodcut illustration on the upper wrapper, silk ties (portfolio frayed and lightly stained). NUMBER 386 OF 675 "exemplaires ordinaires content la musique et une seule planche ...". ‘Sports and Divertissements’ is a cycle of 21 short piano pieces, each depicting, with the verve and eccentricity characteristic of the composer, a different sport or diversion. In the opening piece titled ‘Choral inappétissant’ the composer’s instructions to the player include ‘rébarbatif et hargneaux’ and ‘hypocritement.’
