J WESTON & SON: TWO LATE VICTORIAN FRAMED PHOTOGRAPHIC PORTRAITS ON PORCELAIN (2)

Each photographic portrait enhanced with paint, on a porcelain panel, within a giltwood surround, the larger depicting a sailor boy on rigging, the outer frame 45cm high, the second a side profile portrait of a gentleman, the outer frame 41cm high, both with labels verso reading 'Painted on porcelain, J. Weston & Son, 20a Sandgate Road Folkestone'

Condition report: 


The painted areas, particularly to the boy’s legs and lower section of the torso and sleeve, together with some of the sky, mast and rigging are weathered causing a blurring and blotchy spotting. Otherwise in relatively good condition considering age. 





Jasper Weston (born c. 1810) of Kent established a photographic and portrait miniature business and was later joined by his son, Frederick Jasper Weston in 1874. Their name is recorded in the National Portrait Gallery archive as being predominately active between 1894 to 1910.
