James Walter Butler was one of the leading British figurative sculptors of the late 20th and early 21st centuries, having studied at the Central School of Saint Martins and the Royal College. His public commissions are multiple and varied, international and national - many can found throughout UK cities, such as his famous Richard III in Leicester, 1980. His series of more sensitive and intimate ballet dancers are based upon his young daughters.
