The panelled back with carved crest above a motto ‘DIEU DEPEND LE DRIOT’ and scene of a knight on horseback, carved ‘IC 51’ above a plank seat on turned supports, 73cm wide; 64cm deep; 148cm high

Condition report: 

The later elements include some of the back panelling, such as  the lower register of the back. Please see the reverse image. The castle and knight  relief carved panel appears to be later and associated The carving the uppermost crest and other areas could be 19th Century in a historical manner. We strongly suggest this chair is viewed and potential buyers can satisfy themselves. 

The inevitable scuffs, knocks and subsequent small losses, scratches, some shrinkage and general heavy wear over the years. Some old worm in areas. 

The seat with later blocks to the underside to secure. 

Possibly the carving to the top crest is later embellished. 

Some shrinkage to the relief carved panel depicting the knight.
