PROVENANCE: These wall lights are reputedly from the RMS Mauretania (1906-1935), and were purchased when the ship contents and interior fittings were auctioned off in 1935, when the Cunard-White Star liner was decommissioned in Southampton prior to being broken up the following year.
In 1928 the Edwardian interiors were updated and these wall lights are probably part of this refurbishment. The Mauretania was the world’s largest ship for a brief period and held the transatlantic speed record for 20 years. She also participated in World War I.
