A MEISSEN YELLOW-GROUND PUG DOG PAPERWEIGHT

Late 19th century
The recumbent dog on a rectangular stepped plinth base painted at each end with a titled view of Dresden, the front and back with a panel of flowers inside gilt frames, blue crossed swords mark, incised 1645, 19.5cm length. The base with pencil inscription, `Presented to the English Governess at St.Petersburg Palace by the Grand Duke Sergei (?) .....just before his assassination on Friday Feb 17-1905'

There are two shallow chips to the underside of the base, the largest approx. 0.5cm square. Minor wear to the gilding
