DOCUMENT ON VELLUM - Letters patent granting a baronetcy to Christopher Baynes of Harefield Place, Middlesex, on 2 sheets of vellum, with an engraved portrait of George III at the head of the first sheet, and engraved marginal decoration by J. Hawkins, rubricated, each sheet approximately 600 x 800mm., with a large circular wax seal, diameter 170mm., protected in a metal container, the whole contained in a shaped box, with clasps, [c.1801]. The Baynes Baronetcy was created for Christopher Baynes (1755-1837) on 29 June 1801. He was Major-Commandant of the Uxbridge Gentlemen and Yeomanry Cavalry, which he helped to raise. The title descended from father to son until the death of his great-great-grandson, the fifth baronet, in 1971, whereupon it succeeded to his first cousin, the sixth baronet.
