LONDON - John BOWLES (c.1701-79).  The East [West] Prospect of London, Southwark and the Bridge. London: "Printed and Sold by John Bowles at the Black Horse in Cornhill," [c.1733]. Fine large engraved bird's-eye-view of London in two parts on one sheet, the "East" prospect above and the "West" prospect below, with numbered key panels beneath each view, 960 x 580mm., framed and glazed. The "East" prospect is, in reality, looking west, the "West" looking east, with both prospects showing Wren's newly-completed St Paul's Cathedral, The Monument, London Bridge crowded with buildings (simply referred to as "The Bridge" in the key) and the Thames jostling with ships and other river traffic. The "East" prospect shows, barely visible, Westminster Abbey and Hall at the curve of the Thames in the distance. In both views, open country and hills are visible in the distance.
