GREENE, Graham (1904-91).  A one-page typed letter, signed, on paper with printed heading, "La Résidence des Fleurs, Avenue Pasteur, 06600 Antibes", dated "28th January 1984", stating, "Dear John Wilkins, My warmest congratulations on your article on the Kissinger report. There is not a word I would wish to see altered. My own feelings are very much engaged as I know most of the leaders of the Sandanistas personally, and have contact with rebels from San Salvador. Yours sincerely, [in autograph:] Graham Greene", 193 x 145mm., framed and glazed. Controversially, Graham Greene was a supporter of the Sandanista National Liberation Front in Nicaragua, which ruled the country from 1979 to 1990. In 1987, President Daniel Ortega awarded him Nicaragua's highest decoration for literary achievement, the Ruben Dario Medal, named after the country's most famous poet. John Wilkins (1936-2022), the recipient of the letter, was the editor of the Catholic magazine The Tablet between 1982 and 2003.
