BURNS, Robert (1759-96).  The Poetical Works ... including All the Poetry Contained in Dr. Currie's Edition, and Many other Pieces not Printed in the Copy-right Edition. To which is Prefixed a Highly Interesting Life of the Author. Glasgow: "Printed and Published by Khull, Blackie, & Co. and Archibald Fullarton & Co.," 1821. 8vo (177 x 105mm). Engraved portrait frontispiece, 3 engraved plates, glossary at the end (one leaf torn at the margin without loss, the plates lightly offset). Attractively bound in 19th-century red morocco gilt by J. Carss & Co., the spine gilt in six compartments, marbled endpapers, top edges gilt, others uncut. Provenance: "This copy belonged to the Foreman who had been in Khull Blackie & Co's office from 30 to 40 years and was used by him in getting up their beautiful Book 'The Land of Burns'" (pencil annotation to front free endpaper); the text occasionally interleaved with blank leaves with printed cuttings laid down, sometimes with old annotation [?with notes for the new work mentioned in the pencil inscription]. "The Land of Burns", referred to in the inscription, was published by Blackie in 1840.
