Hand-coloured engraved title and 8 hand-coloured plates by William Heath. FIRST EDITION. Not in Abbey or Tooley. [Bound with:]  [Henry ALKEN (1785-1851, illustrator). British Proverbs: title from head of plates, i.e. no separate title page]. London: E. and C. McLean, 1824. 6 hand-coloured plates by Henry Alken (some captions cropped, a few plates torn without loss, one repaired on verso, some staining and browning, mostly at edges). 2 volumes [or part-volumes] bound in one, oblong 4to (242 x 335mm). Attractively-bound in modern red half morocco, spine lettered in gilt (without the original wrappers). Tooley 21 (second work). Both works RARE. With John Leech's Follies of the Year ... A Series of Coloured Etchings from Punchs [sic] Pocket Books -1844-1864. With some Notes by Shirley Brooks ([London, c. 1864]], oblong 4to, hand-coloured plates, modern red half morocco gilt). Provenance: The Property of the late Frank Graham (1913-2006, modern label), and thence by descent.
