London: Rowland Ward, Ltd., 1905. 4to (332 x 260mm). Half title, coloured lithographed frontispiece after P. P. Sushkin and 24 coloured lithographed plates after F. W. Frohawk (some very light spotting). Original dark green cloth gilt, top edges gilt (corners bumped, some scuffing to lower cover). FIRST EDITION IN ENGLISH. "The present work is a translation of my Gusi Rossii published in Russia in 1904" (from the author's Preface). Anker 9 (spelling the author's name 'Alferaki'): "All the known species and subspecies of Palæarctic geese are described and figured"; Nissen IVB 30; Sitwell Fine Bird Books p.54 (citing the first Russian edition).
