MOUNTBATTEN, Louis, Earl Mountbatten of Burma (1900-79). 4 typed letters to Michael Harrison, signed; the first on paper headed "Broadlands, Romsey", dated "27th September 1965", stating, "My dear Harrison, Thank you for your letter of 20th September, enclosing the account of your one-man campaign on behalf of Johann Philip Reis, which I found very interesting ... As you know, I think that your book 'Mulberry' [i.e. a work on Mulberry harbours, temporary portable harbours developed by the British during World War II for use in the Allied invasion of Normandy in June 1944] has come out extremely well. I hope very much it will run to another Edition or at least another Impression. If it does please do not forget your promise to change that extraordinary reference to me as 'Prince von Battenberg' to 'Prince of Battenberg' ... As I told you my father was naturalised a British subject in 1868 when Queen Victoria anglicised the title. 'Von' has not appeared in the family for nearly 100 years!", with envelope; the second, dated "26th April 1966", stating, "... It is kind of you to send me a copy of the article you wrote on Reis' invention of the electro-magnetic telephone. You certainly made a historic discovery that the telephone was invented by a Hessian and not by an American! ..., with envelope"; the third, dated "3rd March 1966", with envelope; the fourth, dated "7th March 1970", with envelope; together with a printed postcard and a telegram dated "4 June 1965".
