Original green buckram, spine lettered in gilt, dust-jacket designed by John Ward with price of 18s. unclipped (corners rubbed with very slight loss, head and foot of backstrip a little frayed). Provenance: "Rosemary Young, Kuala Lumpur, December 1959" (signature on front free endpaper). FIRST EDITION, first impression, with "There was a fire at the piano-works almost every year, it seemed to be a way of balancing the books" on p.272. This passage, for which the author was threatened with a libel action, was suppressed in later printings.
