Original tan paper boards lettered in white with coloured pictorial label by Beatrix Potter mounted on the upper cover, pictorial endpapers (about 2.5cm torn away from the head of spine with loss of word 'The', joints split). Provenance: "G. Mabel Rose, 1909, Christmas" (inscription on front free endpaper). FIRST EDITION, first or second issue, with notice-board on p.14. Linder p.428; Quinby 16.
