Folio (334 x 215mm). Engraved frontispiece by M. Vander Gucht, title printed in red and black, 97 engraved plates after F. Cleyn, most by W. Hollar and P. Lambert, only (of 101, 2 plates torn and repaired with slight loss, another plate severely torn but without loss, a few plates with shorter tears, some cropping including to upper ruled border of title, variable spotting and staining throughout, occasionally quite heavy). Contemporary panelled calf (rebacked some time ago, corners bumped and rubbed, some scuffing, inner hinges weak, later endpapers). Provenance: Gower Earl Gower (armorial bookplate); later bookplate dated 1897; from the Collection of the late Dr Elkan Lewis (1931-2020). FIRST EDITION of this translation.
