Condition report
The canvas is lined.
Craquelure visible.
Some stretcher marks visible.
Dirt.
A few areas appear a little yellow, including to left side of face, where it meets background.

Inspection under uv light reveals a few small flecks of retouching to nose but an opaque varnish prevents further reading.

The paperwork taped to the back of the picture include old correspondence with the previous owner and the British Library saying they have not been able to send them the obituary for a John Holms they had requested.
There is also a small printed obituary for a John Holms and a William Holms.
