J. Collinson was a family business, established in Liverpool. From 1851, after a visit from Queen Victoria who rode a dapple grey horse, their rocking horses were only produced in the dapple grey scheme in her honour. From the early 20th century they were main suppliers to Harrods and Hamleys. Collinson horses made from 1981 until 1993 are marked with their maker’s name.
