Estimate: £120 - £180
Hammer price: £170
Bidding ended. Lot has been sold.

In a gold frame with a split pearl border, the reverse with a glazed compartment with a locket of hair, unsigned, 6cm x 5cm, together with a portrait miniature of a gentleman, unsigned, in a black papier-mache frame, the painting approx 5cm x 4cm (2)

Condition report:

The first would benefit from a careful thorough clean overall, with a few minor small marks to the glass, dirt and dust to the pearl settings, commensurate with age and use.

The white specks appear to be flaked painted which seem to be fixed in position under the glass. However, the portrait has not been examined out of the frame.  There is likely to be some fading commensurate with age. The surface of the portrait appears flat.

The reverse with pin fixed into the hook clip, which appears to be bent fully round now fixed tight. Mild marks  and tarnishing to the back, especially around the hinge. The hair is in place.

The second: the portrait appears to be painted on ivory, with dirt and dust overall, together with likely fading, commensurate with age and use.  The portrait is held in place with copper teeth. Numerous chips, wear and some light warping mostly to the corners of the frame. Tarnishing to the gilt-metal inner frame and foliate hanging mount, which is also loose. A light craquelure to the carton-pierre surface, commensurate with age.
