With engine-milled borders, on bun feet, one engraved ‘FROM V.R.I. AIX-LES-BAINS, APRIL 1887’, 10.5cm wide; 5.5.cm wide; the other with a three compartments and hinged lids, 10.5cm wide; 5cm high


This casket would have been given by Queen Victoria on a visit to Aix-Les-Bains in 1887.  She first visited there in 1880.  This spa town, created in Roman times, was popular with Europe's crowned heads, aristocrats and the wealthy in the late 19th century.


Condition report: 

Good overall condition. 

The slightly larger one with a loose back bun foot. 

Some tarnishing to the metal work. 

Minor hairline fissure to the right and left front panel. 

Second casket with tarnishing to metal. 

Dent to the front left side of the metal banding and subsequent slight buckle to the lower left banding.

All feet slightly loose. 

General scuffs, dirt, light marks commensurate with use and age.
